Voice teacher and vocal therapist teaching in the Seoul area, teaching voice (singing), voice acting coaching, and voice therapy through music. Current students consist of classical, opera, pop/rock, punk, reggae, indie, funk, voice actors, teachers, electronica singers, and patients with damaged vocal instruments.
I have a Master's of Music Degree in Vocal Arts Pedagogy and Opera Performance (with a concentration in voice therapy and correction) from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance and Education from Luther College, and am the founder of the Camarata Music Company in Seoul. A classically trained musician, I have studied with Nina Hinson (Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, German Staatsoper), Shigemi Matsumoto (San Francisco Opera, Metropolitan Opera), Gary Glaze (New York City Opera), and world renowned conductor David Effron. I have also worked with renowned stage directors: Ken Cazan, David Gately, and Vincent Liotta, performing in numerous operas and musicals. I have performed all over the US, on the West Coast in LA, on the East Coast in New York, and in Scandanavia, with companies including the Janiec Opera Company (NC), Seagle Music Colony (NY), Cedar Rapids Opera (IA), USC Opera (LA), and Center Stage Opera (LA).
I teach strictly vocal technique, and develop each of my students technical vocal ability to their best. I am not a coach, meaning what I do is correct vocal faults, and teach how to sing in a healthy, free, natural way. Although I am personally classically trained, however, I have success with all genres of music, as the basis of vocal production is the same, no matter what type of music you sing. All the great celebrity musicians, such as Mick Jaggar and Steven Tyler study, even today, with classical instructors, as they know the science behind vocal production in and out, and teach them how to produce their sound in a natural, healthy way. These same principles very much hold true for voice actors.
I also work with people who have damaged their voice, through non-invasive vocal therapy. This consists of a variety of exercises designed at improving the quality of the speaking voice, minimizing pressure put on the vocal folds, proper breath support, and promote proper speaking technique. Over 95% of people speak incorrectly, which is why, as people age, the voice weakens and changes. With correct and proper speaking technique, the speed of aging in the voice greatly reduces. I have had a lot of success with many professional voice users, such as voice actors, teachers, business people, singers with prior vocal damage, and numerous other heavy voice using professionals.
