|
|
Hello,
I am looking into getting my TEFL degree. Is it true you can get them online or do you have to have in classroom work? I have 1 year experience teaching in Korea and was thinking about getting one for Europe.
Also, is it true that lots of schools think online TEFL degrees are bogus and won't hire you? They want TEFL's earned in a classroom?
Thanks for any help. |

haha..understood...there is a way to search through threads using google but i dont know if off the top of my head.
Online TEFLs are valuable in the sense that you may learn a few things...but for the most part they arent accepted a lot of places.
When most countries say they want TEFL...what they are referring to is an in class program that also includes you teaching for a few hours.
Online TEFL certs are acceptable in Korea, but are pretty useless in countries that have more competitive ESL markets (i.e. Japan, Hong Kong, etc.).
If you are looking to go to Europe you will almost certainly need a "real" certificate (CELTA, etc.) |

To search Dave's on Google, type this:
"site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea (whatever you want to search for)"
Excluding the quotation marks.
You can also filter how old the posts are you want to see.
Searching Dave's this way is really useful. |

TEFL/TESOL online are IMO pretty much a waste of time and money.
You probably will not get a decent job anywhere, you've got a years teaching experience so get a decent qualification. Countries that pay the most don't even accept them as its well known they are "bogus"
Just do a short class related course, pay your money, get a little bit of further experience from your tutors, the ones I had were awesome over 15 years ESL teaching between them, worth the price of the course alone. |

| It forced me to think about crap I hadn't thought about since I got my teaching cert, so it was helpful in that way. I used Bridge Linguatec teflonline. |

| Do you have an EU passport? Otherwise it will be difficult getting the visa to teach English in Europe. |

Can anyone tell me if BRIDGE TEFL is reputable? Everywhere I've checked, BBB+, Teflcourse review says its great.
Besides my BS, Is this enough for a teaching job in Korea?

Ive emailed PARK ENGLISH recruiting to see if they would accept it, but so far no reply. |

| That mostly depends on where the diploma is from. If you're really asking, "Does anyone respect online degrees as much as regular degrees?" then i would be inclined to say no, unless the regular degree is from a particularly terrible school. Although, I'm sure someone with an online degree will come to their defense. There are some good online degrees, but you've got to be careful, and if you have the option of getting a regular degree then I would take it. |

| I am doing ITTT online. Its not bad. cheap and they email you everything. You have 6 months to complete the 19 chapters. Nothing major. I am halfway through it for studying about 2 weeks. |
