I've been getting more and more into it, and Laphroaig has to be my favorite. I had a nice bit of Balvenie lately. Can't remember if it was the 17 or 21 yr old, but it had a nice nip to it. I'm aware of all the big names and smaller distilleries, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some even less well known brands. Someone said I should try the 25 yr Caol Ila if I can find it.

You've already found the Scotch. Laphroaig is a darling. Highland Park is another good one, but after Laphroaig, all the others just seem so dull.

Well, now all we have to do is get MollyBloom settled in with a decent cigar to go along with the decent hooch.

Laphroaig is nice, but I'm not a big fan of Islay whisky or actually any of the island distilleries (Talisker,...). I prefer Speyside distilleries, so for me, "The Macallan" is sublime.

BTW, I'd love to hear the pronunciation of some of these gaelic names

There's this really great tobacconist near my mom's house, and I have been in there a few time for cigars for my fiance. I have smoked quite a few in the past, but I must admit, I am not an aficionado. I would love some suggestions for some tasty ones.

I got some 10 year old Macallan my buddy brought from the US on his trip here to visit. My plan was to use it as a special gift, but the plans fell through... So now I'm 'stuck' with it. Smile

good to see a thread about 'proper' whisky on here.........

My favourite malt is called Jura Superstition, I bought a bottle coming through Duty Free on the way back out here and am working my way through it....a lovely wee dram.

Other personal favourites are Oban (my local whisky back home, never seen it in Korea but you can get it in Japan), Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Cardhu, and some of the Glenfiddich's that are finished in different casks are quite nice too.

I'm not a fan of Tobermory (another local drop for me back home) and I'm sorry to say I can't handle Talisker, it messes with my head!

Has anyone found any bar in Korea that has a good selection of malts? Even the big hotels i've been to in Seoul only have a few, usually Glenmorangie, Macallan, Bowmore, Glenfiddich and sometimes another one or two. Maybe this EU FTA that comes into effect next year will make it easier to import it.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Fork out the cash for it, you will not regret it.

I'm not a fan of Johnnie Walker or Chivas, Glenmorangie is my poison.

There's only one scotch that's worth a damn:

Laphroaig !

It's amazing in all its incarnations. Now where the hell can I buy a bottle of it in this country ?

Caol Ila (pronounced Coll-Eela) is by far and away the best single malt whiskey in the world. Needless to say that the older it gets, the better it gets, and for not a silly amount of money (a la Johnny Walker Blue), you will have a bottle of perfect 18 year old.
Laphroag is a good alternative, but the Caol Ila just has so many of the subtlties that the 'froig lacks.
Of course, it's all a matter of opinion Wink

No one else is a fan of Talisker from the Isle of Skye? I bought a bottle of their 18 year scotch at the Narita duty free during a stopover on my way back to Korea this summer.

FYI there's a bar at one of the duty free liquor stores in Narita that lets you sample the different scotches before you buy. It was that sampling which led me to spend twice the price on the 18 year Talisker, but boy was it worth it! Also helped out when my flight was delayed for over an hour...

Johnny Blue: Way over priced.

Try Bowmore for a smokey kick.
