So, my handler at my public school is getting my tax stuff all together, been wigging out about it, in fact. Today she found out that as an American, I don't pay Korean taxes anyway and that it'll be mailed back to me when I leave. Thing is, she now claims to need a "residential restoration" form, which she swears is a real thing. Now, from the sound of it, it's simply a proof of residence. Considering my bank statements go to my folks house and I have a passport, I figured, easy. Nope, it must be this one form that might or might not exist. Passport proves nothing. Bills and other mail proves nothing. American I.D. proves nothing.
Needless to say, when I look for this form on line, I get renovation companies specializing in urban repairs. I've contacted the embassy, though they haven't replied yet and I figure they are busy with a bunch of nancies freaking over the snow. So I ask you, have you heard of this before or at least been in this situation? |

Pretty sure she is talking about the residency certificate issued by the IRS. Never got one myself, but I do know that to be exempt from paying Korean taxes your first two years, you must work at a public school or university and submit this certificate to your school.
