I'll tell you what this means:
Obama: "We'll use 99% of the current bill, you can get 1%. That's a good compromise."
Republicans: "No."
Obama: "Ok, lets work together. (flashes a smile and wink at the cameras for the American public). We need to be work TOGETHER! I'm here to give Americans the healthcare they deserve! So, here's what we'll do. We'll keep 98% of the current bill, and you can get 2%."
Republicans: "No."
Obama: "OBSTRUCTIONISTS!!!"
Ok, seriously now, the keyword here is "compromise".
Compromise: a settlement of differences by mutual concessions
The important thing here is that the Republicans have no concessions. Its not their bill. It is their goal to gain.
The Democrats have nothing to gain. Anything that happens would be the Democrats conceding to the Republicans on portions of the bill.
I see nothing mutual about it. I see a compromise being "Here is the Democrat proposals, here is the Republican proposals. Lets compare both and find the best solutions." Instead, I think its going to be more like, "Here is the Democrat proposals. We are sticking with it unless the Republicans can prove their way is better."
I HOPE, that it is more of the former. However, knowing how divided partisan politics is in Washington, I think it will be more of the latter. |

Stated goals are not the same as real goals. Both sides have the exact same real goal: fool the public and serve the needs of special interests. Their mutual concessions are guaranteed by their mutual corruption.
I seriously don't even listen to the so called "debate" anymore. To me they're all just crooks. That's politics simplified. The only way to effect any change is to vote them all out en masse. |

Dem: Here's our proposal. What have you got?
GOP: We have a proposal to privatize Social Security.
Dem: But that idea sucks.
GOP: Too bad. Pkang says we're entitled to have our proposals accepted. |

Dem: We propose crippling tax increases all around to pay for Obama's out of control spending, and multi-trillion $ banker bailouts.
GOP: Sounds good to us (but we need to feign outrage to get reelected).
Dem: Obstructing Obama is the same as committing treason. Yata says so. |
