Normally I wouldn't bother memorializing the frontman for a one-hit wonder outfit, but that particular song was such a great tune, I thought Doug Fieger deserved a little posthumous tribute.

Quote:
Former Knack frontman Doug Fieger, who composed and sang the 1979 hit My Sharona, has died from lung cancer at age 57.

The Detroit native died Feb. 14 at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles, said Jake Hooker, the band's manager.

OTOH, I think you are really pulling a fast one on us. I think this is your favorite song and you wanted to tell everyone that but confessions like that a little too embarrassing so you took advantage of the event to discuss and compliment the song stopping short of saying "This is my favorite song". There you are, locked in the "My Shorona" closet for eternity, unable to marry until this matter gets cleared up. Further, I think you were really fond of your life back then and you often think and wonder "How'd things get so screwed up?". I bet you also like to lean back in your chair and fold your hands together behind your head and say to yourself "Those were good times". Yes, I'll bet thats exactly what you do.

Thank you, THANK YOU Rocket Scientist, for finally saying what I lacked the pride and dignity to say myself!

You're right. It was "the song preference that dare not speak it's name" for me. I've been on the down-low pretty much all my life, to tell the sad truth. I used to go to certain bars, if you know what I mean, places where they'd play My Sharona on the sound system ten times a day, and hang out all night eating nachos and drinking beer while I waited for the song to come back on. Of course, I'd tell all my friends that I was just going there for the food, the ambienece, whatever, but deep in my heart I knew what was really drawing me to those miserable pits of repressed despair.

As well, whenever some of my less tolerant friends would make derogatory jokes about My Sharona, of course I'd be the one laughing the loudest. Sad to think about the dark depths of denial that some people can be driven to by societal sharonaphobia.

As a young'un I would switch "Sharona" with "Scrotum".

Hey, no sweat bro! I'm here for you man. I'm really glad for you that you finally got this thing out in open and you are comfortable with yourself

I liked that song because it made young women get up and dance and there's nothing that makes me happier than some bouncing T&A and I understand completely that you aren't into bouncing T&A but are into My Sharona and I can totally accept that. Its really so sad you that you had to hide your true feelings and self for so long.

There were many different version that people had of that song that they would sing to themselves. Some people would drive home from high school in a green ford Galaxy 500 with their friends and sing Muh-muh-muh Marijauna" because they liked Cheech and Chong stoner humor while others would sing "My scrotum" because they liked their scrotum.

We are likely to go through this again when the guy that sang "Are 'Friends ' Electric" dies although fans of that song didn't go through the persecution you did.

Pride!

No need to feel alone. Sharonaphilia is one of the least diagnosed paraphilias.

As I recall, the song was popular during another period of unrest in Iran. I always thought he was singing "Ayatollah."

There was a spoof version by Steve Dahl & Teenage Radiation with that in the lyrics. There was also a popular spoof version by Weird Al Yankovic that sang "My Balogna".

I wouldn't consider The Knack" a one hot wonder band. I would rank" "Good Girls don't". Up there with "Orgasm Addict "when I comes to teenage sexual frustration songs.

It would not work. Sharona is 3 sylables, scrotum is only 2. Why would you sing a ballad about your scrotum anyway?

Nothing wrong with a little Buzzcocks now and then. What about "Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with" or "Why can't I touch it?".
