...And before anyone jumps on me, yes I know the shipping of pets/cats question has been asked. However, I have some specific concerns that I have yet to see addressed here or elsewhere on the web.

Here are my concerns/issues:
1. She's a larger cat, over 10lbs w/out a carrier - so obviously she can't fly in cabin.

2. She couldn't fly in cabin anyhow bc she'd pee in her carrier. Other than always urinating, she travels fine.

3. I'd be flying from Dallas, with a layover at LAX (not stoked about). My main concern is the connecting flight - I'd have to switch airlines, an American carrier (AA or UA) to an Asian one (Asiana or Korean Air). What is the process for doing this? Will the airline transfer her with the luggage, will I have to recheck her or go through customs, or what? What gets done w/ her during my layover - is she with me or elsewhere in the airport? What are the requirements to have her fly as checked baggage vs cargo? There is a difference, yes?

4. Do I just tell my recruiter that I'll be bringing a pet? I don't want to get there and have my employer tell me that I can't have one in my apt. (I've seen on other posts that people suggest not telling the recruiter or employer until an employment offer is secured. Any other thoughts?)

5. What type of microchip should she have, as I know that certain countries require different kinds. I've read that it should be an ISO 11784/11785 - is this the standard chip used within the U.S.?

6. Also, I'm going in the fall. Probably late August, early September if all goes well. It's hot as hell in Texas. I'm concerned that at that time of year they won't let her fly bc of the heat. But if I wait until winter that it would be too cold in Seoul, and possibly here in TX.

Would it be better to get setup and have a friend ship her directly. I just don't know.

I'm a bit lost procedurally. It's a lot to take into consideration.
ANY help would be appreciated.

(Also before anyone brings it up, I'm aware that some people feel she should simply be left behind. That's not an option for a number of reasons.)

Ok, what about shipping just a month later? In like October? The weather here would be nice and the weather in Texas would be fine. There are companies that organize pet's moving, you might want to look into this.

Regarding your transfer, if you book through United and then connect on Asiana, as they are partners, they you will be checked for your entire flight in Dallas and you will not have to recheck in, in which case, all of your luggage will go with you (cat included). However, if you fly two different airlines that don't code share, once you get to LAX, you will have to go pick up your bags (cat) and recheck in at their counter.

Once your recruiter has found you a position, ask to speak directly with your employer. The reason being is that often the recruiter won't convey the information and they have really nothing to do with where you live and what not. I would contact your future employer and ask them specifically if you are allowed to have a cat in the apartment. Most Korean places don't care about cats because they are quiet.

Hope that helps a little.
