|
|
I am considering a contract renewal but I have been told the fight home will not be paid in cash, but instead I will just receive the flight home after my second contract. It was also said if I don't go home then the company has no legal obligation to pay reimbursement for the flight.
My contract didn't specifically state there would be any reimbursement.
Is this something that should be pushed for or let it go because it's not specifically outlined in the contract? Or-- push for this to be wrote in the new contract and at least try an get it at the end of the second contract?
Thanks
PS
This is a public after school program |

I was thinking about that to. They told me theyd buy me a ticket home since i flew over on my own dime. I'm going to try to get some cash instead of the flight home if i decide to stay a little longer. If they don't i'm going to take the ticket and let it go to waste, won't give them the satisfaction. |

It's worth a try, but unlikely. Your contract says flight, not cash for flight. Why not go home for vacation? They should pay for that. |

Depending on the ticket you got, try to either get a refund directly from the airline or to postpone your flight until your next vacation. In case either is impossible, and if you get to pick the ticket/route, then you could try to get a flight with a nice stop over. Then you don't even have to continue home; you can come back from your stop over destination. I don't know, maybe nothing can work, but it's better to try to get something out of your ticket rather than let it go to waste. |

Same thing happened to me...I received a 'roundtrip' ticket according to my contract, but then at the end of my contract, I signed on with a different employer. My boss refused to give me cash for my ticket because he said that I was not leaving the country, so he doesn't have to give me that. So I contacted the labor office and they assured him that he does have too. So he had to pay my ticket even though I didn't leave. |

I work for a hakwon and my boss is just going to buy me my continuing ticket. It's easier and cheaper that way. |

i had a fairly good relationship with my boss when i worked at a hogwan. i changed to public school with a 10 day gap. i asked for the money instead and offered him 85% of the flight costs. he took it. if he hadnt given it to me, i'd of just made him buy the flight and gone home anyhow. which meant the 85% option saved him some cash. |

Hold on. So does that mean that you get your airfare even if you don't leave the country and just start a new contract.
I was always under the impression that even though there was an "airfare clause" in your contract, if you didn't actually travel to and from Korea you didn't get it. |

depends. i transferred my visa so i didnt need to leave. also, my new contract at public school no longer gives flights but gives cash instead. so i got 1.3 million cash from the new job and 800,000 from the old job. but i was a visa transfer. i did actually leave the country but i left on the old school's visa with my multi entry permit and then transferred my visa over.
the money depends on the school. to get the cash from the hogwan. i done the deal mentioned before and then signed a document (that i made) saying i'd received the flight money and that part of the contract was dealt with and i was satisfied.
the flight is not some legal thing. its just part of the contract, something which has cash value. so if you have the opportunity to negotiate about getting cash instead, then it can be done. |

I also just did a visa transfer to start a new job next Tuesday. I asked about the airfare part of the contract and they said they checked and I wouldn't get it because I was in Korea before this current job started and I'm not leaving Korea.
My contract does say I'll get reimbursed for half at the beginning and half at the end.
I guess I'll do some more digging on this. Some extra cash would be great if I was actually entitled to it. |

Storm into the principal's office, slam your fist down on his desk, and forcefully announce,..."Show me the money!!"
...or,...you could just ask for more vacation time, or something like that. |

I bought my own ticket and after I got the flight money (from the school) I got it refunded (minus something like 150,000) from the travel agent. |
