Does anyone live near Daerim station. I viewed a one room last night near exit 6. There were alot of Chinese signs and lamb restaurants. I guess there must be a large Chinese community there.
The room was ok and cheaper than where i am now so i'm thinking about moving in. What is the area like?

That area is kind of considered the slums of Seoul. It would be cheap to live there probably.
Yeah, from Daelim to Guro/Geumchon there is a fairly large community of Chinese and Southeast Asian immigrants.

Apparently some Koreans think there is crime in that area too.
But heck, it's cheap, on Line 2/Line 7, and you'd probably be able to find some diverse restaurants. Your call.

I stayed in Daerim for a short time. There's not much remarkable about it. I felt safe there, like pretty much anywhere in Korea. The Chinese lamb places were a nice alternative. One thing I do remember was a couple BBQ chicken hofs outside one of the subway exits that had lots of outdoor seating and baseball on a widescreen. Those places were packed and pretty fun in summer.

Thanks for all the replies. I will start a new job in Mullae soon and currently live in Dangsan. I pay 600,000 won in total a month. I was looking at some cheaper places to stay. The Mullae apartment was a bit cheaper at just under 500,000. It was a bit smaller and older though. I might stay put because it's a nice enough building and it's near Costco. I can also bike to my new school weather permitting.

...many lamb kebob shops a la chinois in one location!?....I would be sold on that alone....I am hooked on those places...go to my neighbourhood one as much as possible...and hit up the chinese supah across the street for 750ml bottles of Harbin,Tsingtao, etc for 1500W-2100W...plus some really nasty soju like stuff that comes in a little souvenir glass cup for 500W...mmm Razz
