Hello fellow ESL'ers!

I am looking for a position in Seoul but have had little success so far. Does anyone have experience looking for a position while outside Korea?

It seems that schools prefer teachers already in the country. Is this by and large the case with most recruiters/academies?

I have used dave's, craigslist, facebook etc but no luck.

I have 2 years experience at academies in Daegu.

There's a ton of teachers in country who cant find decent jobs.
They had to create a visa for unemployed teachers. Its called the d-10 looking for work visa. You are out of Korea and want Seoul only??? . I hope you are a 22 year old female with good appearance. Seriously though, what can you offer that's different than others? Do you have an MA? Teacher's cert? Are you willing to work split shift/kindy?
I'd say best bet is super rural that nobody in country wants. Go to Seoul on weekends.

Hi Basic,

I got a job in Daegu last year without any problems.

I don't have an MA but I have 2 years experience if that will count in my favour?

Seoul seemed like the next step after Daegu

... I'm a 24 year old male of average appearance Smile

Hi

Just looking at craigslist ..I too agree many of th ads want teachers in korea already..even crappy long hour hakwons.. But, what about on the outskirts of seoul? I preferred those areas actually. Like Anyang, Ansan, Ilsan, etc.
Plus, people here in Seoul really liked wring in Daegu.
Nicer cheaper apts, easier to meet other foreigners, cleaner, less crowded, more trees.
PS: Bundanng, while a bit far from seoul has tons of extra jobs as the eel is booming there.

24? Ah you'll be fine. Even out of country, but you might have to choose Incheon, Bundang, Suwon...As long as you're on the subway line its all good. Bundang and Suwon have a lot of demand, as the last guy said. You could do this: Get a PT job that sponsors visa, then get 1-2 other jobs. Have to find your own housing though. Another option is GEPIK or SMOE in spring. At 24 though, you'll get hired eventually.

Hi
I would not advise a new, out of country person to try and get a pt job and their own apt... Apts here require usually 5,000 dollars deposit and pt jobs don't offer any benefits, BUT, you are tied to that company for 1 year and they are the sponsor of your visa..meaning, if they decrease your hours or don't pay you, you still need a lefter of permission (LOR for short) to change jobs and get out of your contract with them at immigration.

Jobs often don't like it if you quit and people on h
ere often have trouble getting this letter. Whats more, immigration will not always care if they will not give you this letter or if they are not following your initial agreement.
Immigration can be, sorry we need that Letter..

Yes, true. I mentioned the housing thing.
He did say he has two yrs experience. But yes, the free agent thing is hard, you have to be savvy. It can be much better than 2-10pm for 2.1 though, if you know how to work it. Just one option.
