Like most people in Korea, I have a passbook (which never sees the light of day unless I send some money home) and an ATM card. Over a long period of time, I have gotten used to withdrawing x amount a week and slowly spending it, until the wallet runs dry and I have to get some more from an ATM. I guess I could go on like this forever, but anyway....
How quick and easy is it to get a "real" debit/checking card in Korea, akin to the one you'd have with a checking account with a major bank back home, complete with little holographic seal and Visa/Mastercard logo? Anyone?
I guess the main reasons to get this done would be to get a "real" cell phone plan and a nice new cell phone as supposed to the prepaid one and having to run out/charge up the minutes all the time on some beat up used one, as well as being able to order merchandise online from Korean sites in Korea. |
