Hello,
First of all, I wanted to thank all of the experienced teachers that take the time to post regularly on this site. You're a big help!
Anyway, I'm looking to break into the ESL scene in Korea and need some information on what kind of certification I should have prior to applying for a position. I've been browsing the want adds and it seems very confusing.
Do I need to have some sort of TEFL/TESOL certification to get hired???
If so, which one? Oxford looks doable, but is it worth the $$$?
For the record, I'm not a 24 year old Barbie, more like a 40 year old Ken.
Thanks! |

If you have a bachelors degree (in anything) then a TESOL cert may get you a bonus (100k per month at a public school for example) but other than that it is not necessary to get a job here.
If you don't have a bachelors degree then you better start looking to eastern Europe for a job. |

You can get a job in Korea with a bachelor's in anything. However, some jobs do require a cert. If you're going to go to the trouble of getting one, you should get a CELTA which is recognized worldwide. It would also make you feel more confident in the classroom while offering a better product to the students.
