| KT Show charge W13,000 a month for a plan with no calls/texts included. I'm a moderate user (10 mins a day calls and a few texts) and it comes to about 30 a month usually. |

I don't understand. The plan is NO calls and NO texts?
About the texting, do they have other languages besides Korean and English? My husband and I need something with Spanish texts.
Thanks so much for your info |

| no, basic plan, just to use the phone is usually 11-13 000. you pay for what you use. ie. texts and calls. |

| Even if you have a charge (pay-as-you-go) plan and you run out of money for the month, other people can call and text you. you just can't call/text them back. |

I recently went through the quest of getting a cellphone. I made a nice table of phrases with English, Korean in hangul alphabet and Korean in "English" alphabet. One of my co-workers translated the phrases into Korean for me, so that I could go around to different stores to ask for a phone and plans and stuff. If you want it, PM me and I'll email it to you.
But in short, until you have an ARC, you can neither buy a phone nor get a plan, not even pre-paid. If you want to get a phone sooner, you have to find a Korean or another foreigner (who already has an ARC) and get them to buy and register the phone under their name.
Second hand phones here are hard to find. Most stores will not have them and the few that do will have something that's about 1 year (or less) old. (In Itaewon and near US military bases you are more likely to find them.) Ask your co-workers if one of them will sell you an old phone and register you for a pre-paid account under their name. A lot of people have an old phone kicking around in the back of the cupboard or somewhere. If you use the phone only a little, then pre-paid is cheaper. You can charge 10,000W to is and use that for 1 month. After that you are limited to incoming (unless you charge more money to it again). Incoming calls are free for all phones. |

no offense to the previous poster, but the majority of what u said is not true.
there are TONS of used phones in Yonsan's Ipark and Technomart. At wangsimni station on the 2nd, or 3rd floor (cant remember), there is another place similar to what u will find in Yonsan.
You CAN get a pre-paid phone with just your Visa number, even if you dont have an ARC. I know for a fact you can do it with KT. They will only be able to activate it for 3 months at a time, until u give them your ARC. Which would mean every 3 months u would have to go to a tworld store and show them that you are still in the country with a valid visa. they then, will bump it again ahead another 3 months. |

with freeT all you need is a passport, though it can be difficult to find phone shops that actually deal with freeT, I've only fbeen to two locations; one by Baekseok station (line3) in Ilsan and one near Yeoksam(sp?) station (line2) in Seoul. However you can get the phone and plan setup online at IT Korea
I would advise having them mail the phone to your place of work as there will be a COD charge (5000 won I think) and odds are it will be delivered during the day, and no one at you building is going to accept it if there is a charge.
I've used my phone for almost a year and it tends to cost me about 10,000 won a month. |
