So I have a bill from ICEPCO that I have to pay (the electric company) and was wondering if it *had* to be paid at the bank teller or could I do it from the atm?

I thought all banks had specialised machines for paying these type (OCR) bills; just stick your card in the machine, press a few buttons tear off the OCR slip and feed it into the machine, punch in your pin, and voila.

I pay all my bills at the KB ATM. There is a special machine usually on the end, but there is no English, so good luck if you don't know what you're doing.

I use KB too, and that would be the machine I was talking about, the first few times I just stood there with a dumb-founded look on my face, then someone (usually security) would come over and do it for me, if you pay any attention at all you can just watch them and quickly memorize what order to select things, it isn't that difficult. Or better yet actually learn a bit of Korean so you can just do it yourself.

I pay my bills through InternetNet Banking. It's a little bit of hassle to set it up though. And yes, you do have to know some Korean.

FYI, the special bill ATMs seem only to be open during bank hours (at least for the banks I use: IBK and KEB). Either they're inside the bank, or if they're with the other ATMs, the screens are turned off outside banking hours.

I never even tried to use that machine by myself. This probably annoyed my boss to no end, but it was all in Korean and she wasn't always nice to me, so I wasn't really motivated to remember which keys were for what...is that terrible, or what?

I'm not sure about ICEPCO specifically, but many bills can be paid via bank transfer through a regular ATM. On both my electric and gas bills there's a list of different banks with account numbers. You can choose whichever bank is yours (to avoid the transfer fee) and just transfer the money.

Is there anyway to call up and get the total due and make a payment somewhere else? I will have my account closed before I get my bill, but I want to pay it before leaving. Confused I just need to make sure I get a receipt.

Usually there's someone there to help people with paying those utility bills. Many older Koreans have problems with technology, so they need help.

If no one is there to help you, you can try this at KB-
When you walk up to the machine, click on the upper left icon. That will get you started. From there, the instructions are easy.

BTW, you can set it up that automatic payments are made- they come out of your account- but be careful that you don't pay for utility bills left by others and make sure that you cancel it so you don't pay for others after you leave that apartment.
