Sony's PlayStation 3 could be 3D ready as soon as this June, with reports suggesting a firmware update coinciding with the release of Sony's first 3D TV will enable the console to output in 3D.
PlayStation 3's capacity to support 3D gaming has already been touted with playable versions of Gran Turismo and Super Stardust on show at this year's CES. Now as Sony prepares to seriously enter the 3D space with the launch of its first 3D TV in Japan on June 10 it looks as if the PlayStation 3 will be following suit.
Leaked shots of Firmware 3.20 reveal it's to offer 3D Video Output, and now a report on AV Watch translated by NeoGAF and picked up by vg247 dates its release for this June, the same date as the release of Sony's 350,000 yen 46 inch 3D TV.
Sony declined to offer any comment on the story. |

Hm... I personally think this is way more awesome than Natal or even PS3's 1:1 motion controls that are going to come out. Unless it's really amazing tech, I'm going to continue perceiving motion controls as super unwieldy.
3D would be awesome. Virtua Tennis 3D, Super Punch Out 3D, Time Crisis 3D, etc. [/quote] |

| for me its an interesting if overhyped technology..that is until the right titles come out. gaming wise generating the stereoscopic image for 3d requires an enormous amount of extra processing power and as with nvidia's 3d excursion on the pc the frame rates drop considerably. im not sure how they plan to get around the problem on the ps3..maybe cut down on details?...im keeping an open mind to see how it pans out |

| I'd say this is something that would come more into play the NEXT generation. Why would they develop 3d PS3 games when there won't be anyone to buy them (got your 3d TV preordered yet?) for years. |

I wish they'd figure out how to install system updates faster.
I kind of hate this new/old fad of 3-D. Until it gets to virtual reality levels, I don't care. |

Well obviously I'm not making plans for a Killzone 3D party anytime soon, I'm just glad there's some developments. Gotta start somewhere.
One thing I'm currently excited about will be PSTwo Classics! That way, I can re-buy all the games I already dropped tons of money on! I'm both excited and peeved. Apparently, some PS2 games have appeared on the Japanese PSN Store. Here's hoping for a digital release of Shadow of the Colossus and many of the other 1800 games in PS2's library. And the continued release of PSOne Classics. It's a good time to have a lot of disposable income. |
