|
|
Just curious what some people have found is the fastest way to get a criminal check from Canada.
I am debating on going to canada just to get mine in case it is actually faster.
I know of 3 ways that you can get a check done.
1. RCMP
2. Ottawa police, I think the probably do something through the RCMP as well
3. Your local police station
Are all three methods valid. I know for sure RCMP is.
Also, does the OPP do background checks as well?
any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be sitting in Korea for ever without a job.
Thanks |

What city are you from? What I did was email 2 pieces of ID to my brother, along with a confirmation letter stating that I was authorizing him to apply and receive my clearance check. Now these checks will not have the VSS search that the Korean embassies in Canada are requesting. But, if you can side step them, which you can, by having the Canadian embassy notarize the document, this check should be fine. You will have to contact your local police department and ask if someone can apply for the check on your behalf. I know the Toronto PD will do it.
Hope this helps. Be more specific as to what city you are from, and I may have some more valid information. |

Sorry, I don't have any info on Hastings or Waterloo. Give a call to these departments, and see if someone can apply for the checks on your behalf. |

Called. they say through RCMP.
Now I also asked how long. they said 3 to 4 months
Called the other service listed on that other thread. They said they use the RCMP and basically it's what ever is closer, the speed will be about the same, because in the end the RCMP are the ones processing all of this.
If it is done with ink, like it would have to be in korea, it will take 3 to 4 months.
That is, from what I know, the only way to get a CRC within the vulnerability sector from korea.
The other routes probably just aren't technically the acceptable for dealing with children in canada and korea doesn't know any better. That would be a criminal background check without fingerprints.
The fastest way that I know of, would be to actually go to canada and get electronic fingerprints done at either the international fingerprinting services canada or RCMP. Again, it all goes to RCMP in the end, so choose which ever of the two is closer. This should take about 6 days, assuming you don't have any issues. If you have a flag and they have to break out the super CSI computer skills, then again you are ranging in the 3 month range.
It sucks to say this... But it almost looks like the best route for me to go would be to pay to go to Canada and get them done, then have some hagwan pay for my flight back.
The only other route would be get my black inked prints done somewhere in Korea, ship it to RCMP, and wait 3 to 4 months. In the mean time I would have to fly somewhere cheap, fly back, have a return airfare ticket (thus buying 3 tickets, just so they let me in the country), get a 6 month vacation visa, and work illegally while I wait.
Tempting, but I am not one to really test fate in Korea.
So I am most likely going to suck up my losses from my shit ass director, and buy my own ticket back home, so I can get all this crap done.
The shit thing is I will have to mail all this junk to the korean consulate again... that takes so BLOODY LONG.
On the plus side. I will have more time to scope out decent jobs, and I'll get to see clear skies and rows of evergreens again. |

Think OESC in Ontario is one of the fastest options if you're in Korea and want to be self-sufficient....can be done through mail and takes approx. 4 weeks (20 bus. days).
http://www.oesc-cseo.org/English/about.html
Must read through pages a little to find out that you can receive 2 reports for employment purposes and skip the card thing.
Haven't personally done it yet but plan to in a few weeks. |

It says it's for graduating students. Do you know if they will send it here to Korea? Also, they don't require any form of identification, are you sure that the police checks they acquire will be acceptable by immi?
I assume that we would have to use this form.

Here is the link for the Ottawa Police and their information.

I think I'll use this one but I have to check if $45 is the correct fee as I'm not a resident of Ottawa.
I'm not sure how fast it is but bobbybigfoot got it in
less than 5 weeks. |

Apologies if information about this has been posted more recently... the search function isn't helping much. I'm not in Canada right now but am trying to get a CRC from there. I can't really afford to wait for the four-month RCMP one, but I called my local RCMP office and they won't let someone else apply for me there, so what's the fastest way to get this done? I've seen links here to the Ottawa police, which is only good for people formerly residing in Ottawa, and the Winnipeg police. Can I use the Winnipeg police one if I was never a resident of Winnipeg? Any other suggestions?
All the threads I've seen about this are rather old and I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. As with everything else bureaucratic, it seems like if I ask five people I get six different answers... |

Yep, you can get one from Winnipeg as long as you're Canadian. I've done it three times. It's pretty easy and usually pretty fast. The RCMP and OPP wanted me to jump through these ridiculous hoops. Bonus: The Winnipeg Police people were always really friendly and helpful! |

Yes, I've used the Winnipeg PD as well, despite the fact I've never lived there.
Fast, efficient and cheap. |

Absolute fastest way to get the most current criminal check in any country:
Go there and commit a crime right before coming to Korea. It's a free report too! |

I've always gone to the local cop station, asked them to run the most thorough check they can (specifying I'll be working with children and all that) - it costs me about $30 - $50 and I get it a month or so. |

Really?? Lucky...Last time I asked for the VSS part of the background check, they said they wouldn't do it for me personally, unless, I got a note/letter/authorization from my employer. Of course, the Koreans here wouldn't send me a letter, no surprise, and I had to ask my buddy who is a teacher here to write a note on his school's letterhead that I was volunteering to help at his school.
This was with the OPP and it took about 5 days, so that was great, but not the hoops to get to that stage. |
