Could someone tell me if the animal shelter in Daejeon is gone?
Is there now no animal shelters in Daejeon? |

It's still there. My wife and I went one Sunday afternoon to walk some of the dogs. Our foster is from there also.

Try these sites for info. They have one lady that speaks a little English. If you go they are pretty happy to let you walk the dogs and give them attention. |

Cool... I can't see where it says how to get to it.
Any directions? Also, are they open tomorrow? |

I live in Gyeongsan so I'm not too familiar with Daejeon. I remember we went to Daejeon station and then took the subway down a few stops. Sorry I can't remember the name of the station. Then you can take a taxi or bus. Of course the taxi would take you right to the fron door and you would have to walk a bit after taking the bus. It sits on a hill back off one of the major roads. They have 2 buildings and over 100 cats and dogs.
Use the A.R.K sight to msg people. That's what we did. I think they take volunteers anytime but Saturdays and Sundays are when the waegook-in go.
Good luck. |

They have many animals there is no fee for adopting from there. They have 3-4 rooms with dogs and cats in kennels. Some of the small dogs are free to run around. As far as taking a cat or dog we have no idea. But by our definition of shelter they fit it perfectly. There were 2 foreigners that have been numerous times that my wife talked to and they meet us and we went together. One is from Canada and the other is American. If your on ARK then just post some questions and someone should reply. |

ARK isn't a shelter but they work with different shelters, including one run by the city of Daejeon. AFAIK that shelter doesn't kill healthy animals, but they are overcrowded and it can take a long time for an animal to get adopted. ARK also used to work with a private no-kill shelter in Daejeon, but it closed and the animals moved to Asan more than a year ago. The Asan shelter may have some space for a cat, although I can't say for sure ... but if you adopted your cat from Nabiya and the adoption hasn't worked out, I think Nabiya would be a better choice.
Is it only human kids that your cat has a problem with or do you think she'd be aggressive toward other animals too? Is she definitely negative for fatal diseases such as feline AIDS? |

Thanks, you guys.
Bramble, I didn't adopt her from Nabiya. I got her here on Dave's. I took her to the vet to have her checked out when she came here and everything was fine.
I don't know what she's like with other animals because I have no experience of it, but she definitely doesn't like my daughter... and is apprehensive towards strangers.
I'd like someone to adopt her, if possible.. I know I definitely cannot keep her. |

Hi There,
I went to one in Yuseong the other day outside of Daejeon. I don't think anyone spoke english there. It is behind the Gamdong church. Catch the 107 out towards donghak temple and get off at the stop after the cemetery. They seem to have helpers but the shelter is small and they need to find dogs homes. The dogs are the noisiest!. You should see the cemetary entrance and some shops, walk down the road on the right of the shops (there's actually a gas station/ Korean store on the other side), near the bridge. It is not the actual entrance to the cemetary but if you see the cemetary entrance don't go in, head back up the road (up the hill) and take the next right. To your right there will be some sheds and a fence which comprise the shelter.
It took me a while to find it, PM me for details. I am not sure but maybe from what people are saying the original one changed hands or closed? The person said I could take a pet home if I had a carrier; they don't know about the history of many of the animals there. |

I'm sorry, I thought you'd said she was from Nabiya ... in that case I'd post her picture on ARK and try to adopt her out privately rather than put her in a shelter. If it's urgent, foster care would be better than a shelter. I'd offer, but I'm a little worried about how bringing home a new cat would affect the animals I already have. My place is fairly small, so I couldn't isolate her from the others if there was a problem unless I put her in the bathroom (and she probably wouldn't be very happy there).
It sounds like a difficult situation, but have you tried getting in touch with any animal behaviourists to see if she can be trained out of this? |

Hi
My girlfriend and I want to adopt a kitten. We live in Gwangju, just moved here, and don't know any Koreans to help us go to the Gwangju shelter. We are thinking of heading out to Daejeon to visit the shelter there.
warmachine: could you please put us in touch with the people you went with? We also need directions, and protocol for adoptions. ie, can we take home a kitten the first time we visit?
Also, if anyone is from Gwangju and knows anything about the shelter here, or anywhere else we can adopt a kitten from, any information is helpful!
Thanks |

There's a Gwangju shelter on this list. |

On this thread http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1850 you can find the contact info for Jeyn and Annie. Both can tell you more about Daejeon. Also, if you are interested in any other shelter in Korea, I think contacting Annie is your best bet. She seems to have the most experience in korea, or at least knows how to locate info.
good luck
Thanks for adopting and not shopping |
