My husband started working at a public school (or rather, won't start till Tuesday but has done the orientation) and I am on a weird visa which doesn't allow me to be self-employed on the national health plan (doing independent research). But I can be a dependent on my husband's insurance. How should he go about getting proof of insurance coverage for both of us? Does he ask his school, or should we just go to the nearest health insurance office with our visas and proof of his employment and do it that way?

Sometime shortly after he gets his ARC your husband will be enrolled in the national health plan by his school.

He just needs to ask that you are added to his book. You will also need your ARC and possibly proof of marriage if you are not on an F3 (dependent) visa.

There is NO additional charge or increase in the premium to add you to his NHIC.

Details are on the NHIC website: http://www.nhic.or.kr/
Look for the link to the English pages.

Thanks for that information.

One thing, though- I thought that one was covered by national insurance as soon as one started working (which he has). However, since he has no proof yet a trip to the doctor would mean we'd pay out of pocket and get reimbursed once we have proof. Is that right? (I just canceled the US overseas insurance I had, since it was very expensive).
