I gotta say, if I had to go to prison, I'd much rather be in a Korean one as opposed to an American one...I have a feeling a lot less gang bangers will bother you in Korean prison. |

Huh. That's weird. I'm almost at a loss for left-handed comments. |

I love that comment about the Korean Dream.
I wonder if those Canadians caught selling or doing drugs feel they can still reach their Korean Dream? |

Read the book Brother One Cell. According to that guy a real Korean prison wasn't all bad. foreigners had a private cell---could get letters and learn Korean etc. Food was at least OK and there really was no violence.
In a sense this prison sounds "too good" You might say it's not the REAL Korea. Reading English books and watching CNN etc? Ha-thats what these people were doing before they got busted.
If I went to a Korean jail (not in the cards) I think I'd prefer the old school ones. At least you'd come out fluent.
wonder if prisoners are still deported on release? |

This entire idea seems like just another totally misguided attempt at PR by Korea. "Come to Korea; even if you get locked up in prison, it won't be so bad."
On a serious note, though, if they really put as much emphasis on the inmates human right as they describe, then kudos to them. How a nation treats its prisoners is, in my opinion, a fairly important standard with regards to human rights. |

Yeah, even the convicts get pepper sprayed with the Korean propaganda machine. "Korean Dream." Sorry Korea, no matter how you may try to convince yourselves and foolishly attempt to convert others, you will never be a "dream, "sparkling", "miraculous", "insert-any-grandiose-word." Imagine doing life in prison here and having to deal with the propaganda for the rest of your life. A worse fate than being banished to Hell, I think... |

I don't get it. What are they trying to do here? Rehab people by treating them like gods while imprisoning them? Sorry, Korea. Another awful idea.
But yes, just about anything is better than the US prison system. |

I don't think having basic human rights respected and being able to watch TV and eat Western food is akin to being treated like a god. You are still imprisoned and have to obey the guards' orders. Like most other things the reality is probably quite a bit harsher than it actually seems. |

In most countries...you get sent to prison...you're now an "Undesirable Alien" and will be deported when released from prison. So...the prison director states...they can still have the korean dream. Yeah...wet dreams...cause immigration will deport them when released! |

It depends on your definition of dream. Do you mean "success" or do you mean "altered state"?
