You could try Toyoko Inn which is simple, cheap and good.

They have a hotel in Fukuoka near the subway line starting at 5880yen per room. It is new too - it only opened in February. |

There is a hotel somewhat near the embassy that was about 6500yen. It's also close to the baseball stadium. They may have a game that night (or try to schedule your trip for when they do)
It's called Twins Hotel (it's marked with the D on the map. Go to the curry shop across from the embassy for some good food and the Sikh can point you in the right direction. |

One called Central Fukuoka Hotel. Its near a place called Tenjin which is pretty popular.
not sure exact price, but for a round trip ferry, and a two night stay, it was only 300k from a travel agent in Busan. |

The Fukuoka Artsy Hotel is another one. It's also near Tenjin and is fairly affordable. I've stayed there a couple of times and been pleased. Simple rooms but clean, quiet, etc. |
