I just got an offer to teach a rich kid in Seoul three times a week.
I am not an english teacher so I don't know how much these gigs usually pay.
He is a high school student looking to go to University in Canada. I will be giving him about 3 hours of classes a week. His dad already had Canadian citizenship but he is panicing a bit because his son is not living up to his academic expectations.
How much should I charge for this? |

| If I were you, I'd offer to pay them a few thousand won per hour since you seem to have problems reading yourself, I can't imagine how good a teacher you'd be. There's a thread at the top saying that threads discussion private lessons are not allowed since they are ILLEGAL for most people here. |

Is it against the rules of the board for F-2 teachers to discuss private lessons too? Its not illegal for us to do them as long as we have our income declared for tax. |

You're sadly mistaken if you think it's legal for you to do privates so long as you declare your income. You also have to have a tutor's license. As for your other question...

Regardless, were I you, I would survey the job. I've prepared many hakwon students for overseas travel. You need to ask yourself if you're going to be spending more time on conversation or on proofing essays. Then check the open market in your area for what those services cost. I have a student right now who is really strong in English, but his vocabulary sucks. I don't charge to mark his vocab book because it takes 10 minutes to do it. If you're going to do something more formal, you're going to need to decide what your time is worth, based on the market. People here can't do that for you, you have to research the market yourself and decide on a price that's acceptable to you. |
