Hello All,

I might be moving to Daegu, and would love to learn about the different neighborhoods. I was hoping to move to Jung-gu, Suseong-gu, or SiJi. Please help me out if you would like to offer an opinion on any of these areas.

DO NOT OFFER YOUR OPINION ON SEOUL. I've been there, I don't want to live there.

I live on the west side, so I can't say anything particular about those subdivisions. To my knowledge Suseong-gu is more upscale.

I like Daegu, but it is a conservative city. Not much international food or nightlife. But there's mountains and trees and I find people nicer than in Seoul. Hot summers, cold winters.

Busan is better. Daegu is depressing.

I would also choose Busan over Daegu. More life on the street, beaches, nicer (albeit rainy) weather. But I would still choose either over Seoul.

Having been in Venice 3 times, it is certainly not the Venice of Korea. There are nice mountains to walk in, some bars (if you are in to that stuff) an Opera house close by. You are 1 hour away from Busan by train. I was totally bored by Daegu, and would much rather be in Busan. They are conservative, and they push. It is really hot in summer and cold in the winter. Don't go, after 3 weeks you will be bored. I was in the Seongso district, a 10 min. subway from Downtown.

I've visited. The bars there are kind of lame. It's like the clubs are either empty, or much too crowded. In the summer though, downtown is a good place to hang out at night. By the way, Daegu seems to have a very high proportion of fine women, so if you're a straight guy then that's a plus.

Oh yeah and there's a cool place called Billi-Bowl. It has mini-bowling and billiards and it's very nice on the inside. I wished that they had that place in Daejeon.

By the way, if you find the foreigner scene in your city boring, there are plenty of other bars you can go to where you don't have to listen to a bunch of weenies talking about the Arcade Fire. You can go to a booking club or a whiskey bar or plenty of other bars that are very nice. In Daegu me and my friend ran into some adjeosshi who called himself Jesus and he took us to this bar full of sexy women. He also bought two bottles of whiskey that he shared with us.

The Holy Grill is a good bar/ restaurant with Western food and pitchers of Red Rock. It also has a cool sitting area outside.

There was some foreign bar in a basement but it was very crowded and full of nerds and weenies. Total sausage fest.

There's a lot to do in Daegu. There are some cool bars and cool people, hot women, plus downtown is pretty cool.

I lived in Daejeon, where there's less to do than in Daegu and I still had a blast. You can do a lot worse than Daegu.

I believe the ex-pat scene is pretty strong there. For one, they have a big softball league. Might come from the fact that there are few ex-pat drinking places .

I'm also considering moving to Daegu. This will be my first time in Korea.

Is it a lot colder in the winter than other Korean cities? I am from Texas and a huge wimp when it comes to the cold.

I lived in Jung-gu last year, and recently moved to Suseong-Gu.... Jung-gu is the downtown area, lots of things to do, and Suseong-Gu is "the most affluent part of Daegu" (or so my adult students tell me) and I like it a lot. It's only a couple of subway stops from downtown and about 4000 won for a taxi to downtown (from my apartment anyway). It's newer and not as smelly.

The only thing I know about Siji is that it has Siji Taco, home of pretty decent tacos and burritos (as far as Korea goes anyway).
