I'm not sure if this is just an Irish thing or not. I've asked a few NA friends, and they've never heard of it. It's always the Tueday before Lent starts (tomorrow is Ash Wednesday). (Easter is pretty early this year.)
Anyhow, I'm having pancakes for supper this evening. Anyone else?!!

Just a Catholic thing, I reckon. We always did it at home (though we are 4th/5th generation Irish). Our elementary school always did it too, though. |

Hey, Catycat. Have another go at spelling Tuesday!!!!
Yeah. Pancake Tuesday is a Catholic thing, but not only....
Shrove Tuesday is the term used in the United Kingdom,[1] Ireland,[2] and Australia[3] to refer to the day after Shrove Monday (or the more old fashioned Collop Monday) and before Ash Wednesday (the liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday). In these countries, particularly Ireland, and amongst Anglicans, Lutherans and possibly other Protestant denominations in Canada including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, this day is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday, because it is customary to eat pancakes on this day.[4][5][6] In other parts of the worldfor example, in historically Catholic and French-speaking parts of the United States and elsewherethis day is called Mardi Gras. In areas with large Polish-immigrant populations (for example, Chicago) it is known as Paczki Day. And in areas with large German-immigrant populations (for example, Pennsylvania Dutch Country) it is known as Fasnacht Day (also spelled Fausnacht Day and Fauschnaut Day). |

I'm from Nova Scotia and we always did pancake day. Our elementary school had pancake day too, and we'd all get pancakes in school that day (sometimes we got to help make them - I loved it!).
We called it shrove Tuesday though, not pancake tuesday.
Woohoo I know what my dinner is tonight!
Mmmmm pancakes.
Now should I do plain, or banana chocolate chip? |

I remember doing this in elementary school but didn't know the name.
Too late for me as I just finished steak and potatoes for dinner, but I think I'll have some blueberry pancakes with whipping cream for breakfast tomorrow. |

You clearly grew up in an underprivileged part of the world where there were no International House of Pancake restaurants just down the road. IHOP is one of the key signs of First World status. |
