I'm a recent grad interested in teaching in Korea. I've just been contacted by a recruiter from ESL Park, but not sure if I should trust them with my info. Is it safe? Anyone here of any complaints? |

Think about what ages you want to teach, where in Korea you want to teach, and if you want to teach long-term. Then contact many different recruiters with your preferences. Don't wait for any single recruiter to tell you "what's available." Push the issue to get what YOU want. |

Agreed.
Join several different agencies, it opens your options and gives a bigger variety of jobs. As mentioned, decide what kind of job you want, where, age, public or private etc and dont accept less (though a little flexibility is always a good thing). Certainly dont let any recruiters push you into accepting a job that youre not entirely happy with.
As for the info, Ive given personal info without any probs so far. Sometimes recruiters request personal info, but if youre uncomfortable about it then tell them youll send it later when you secure a position... absolutely dont send them any documents (by mail) until you have 100% accepted a position though.
Also, you could go directly to a recruiters website and search jobs before registering with them.
The most important thing to remember is to do your research!! Check the jobs on Daves regularely, youll get a feel for good jobs, bad contracts, acceptable salary, typical working hours etc and of course you can post here and ask for advice...
And when youre ready to head on over, spend a little time reading up on the culture... itll help a lot with settling in. Good luck! |

Good advice but be careful when applying with too many recruiters as that can end up biting you in the butt, namely for public school positions (certain recruiters specialize in PS jobs)
I will agree you need to push for what YOU want but will add that you will also have to KNOW what you are worth (this depends on your experience and credentials), to KNOW what the market can offer you and finally to be READY to COMPROMISE on certain things.
This is not about laying down at taking whatever is offered but rather about being realistic.
Anyway, good luck. |

Lots of good advice so far. With recruiters be adamant and don't take the first job offer. Be specific about what you want. Remembr they work for you and don't get paid unless you take a job. There are a lot of shady recruiters out there but also some good ones. I used Work n Play for my current Public School job and was overall satisfied. What ever you do don't let a recruiter push you around. If they start giving you a hard time move on. Best of luck to your job search. |
