Thankfully I have not been handed this horrific task. This has been bestowed upon the new Korean english conversation teacher. She just asked me for any help with this task (She is hot ,trying to get in her good graces!). Sounds like a train wreck to me and I'm just glad I managed to dodge this bullet ! Cool

Anyway being a 20 year old hetrosexual male musicals ain't exactly my forte. What would be easiest to teach ? Anyone every done anything like this before ?? I seriously doubt it but thought I would give it a shot on here . Any tips at all would be cool. Its like pulling teeth trying to get the kids to speak never mind sing. Seems like a disaster to me.

If the teacher is into it, enthusiastic etc the students will follow on. The trick is to act like its cool to sing cheesy musical songs! Just keep repeating it over and over!

If your friend plays her cards right, the girls will do really well and have a great time.

If your friend does get the 5th and 6th grade boys to do a good job, I will be impressed....

I did a drama camp with 5th and 6th graders where they acted out Harry Potter. The girls loved it and did an excellent job. The boys just kinda sat there talking to each other. I imagine a musical would be a lot harder too.

Most boys at that age are really shy about this kind of stuff.

Have the boys do the fight scenes, and the girls the romance ones.

i would love to teach a musical, but i'd keep it very simple and make it so like everyone was included equaly, what about joseph and the amazing technacolour dream coat?

Look into the Ready Action! series of books. They are kind of twisted fairy tales that are plays with usually 5-6 short songs in each one.
They are usually good for classes ranged 6-10 students.

Another concept that I've seen work well for that age students is to take a Korean fairy tale that all of the students know, like Kongji and Patji, write out dialogs and in between scenes do pop songs with similar themes... like "You are my sunshine" or something to that effect.

I remember this musical play from way back in elementary school.
It really just a bunch of musical sketches, so she could pick a few of the songs if you don't want to do all of them. A lot of them are for groups of kids, too.
