That's incredibly sad. The doors couldn't open from the inside. Reminds me of the punky brewster episode where the kid gets trapped in the fridge.

Happened in the US a few years ago, pretty sure they added emergency disconnects to the locks inside. Trunks of cars sold in the US have dayglo releases inside because too many kids got baked like potatoes in the summer heat after hiding in the trunk.
