I'm not exactly technologically savvy, so you may not be able to help me anyhow! My employer has blocked the facebook site. Can you recommend a way to get around this? Thank you in advance.

If you are using a web proxy (which you certainly will be if you're not tech savvy) and you want to log into your account, you might have to try more than one proxy site. Some of them allow you to browse websites, but not enter data (e.g. your username and password). If one site does't work, just try the next one of the list.

Here's a site with a large list of web proxies to start you off.
http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml
Just enter your website (http://www.facebook.com) in the box, click on the first proxy in the list and click GO.

I'm not trying to be deliberately *un*helpful here, because someone else told you to use a proxy, but you need to weigh the risks of letting your farm not getting tended for a few hours against your employer noticing that you deliberately circumvented his filter.

CBH makes a good point. If you ARE going to visit sites that have been blocked, be careful not to let the other staff see you doing it. Even if your boss has no legitimate reasons for blocking it other than not wanting the slaves to be sitting around lazily during their unpaid pauses between classes, it will still cause a bad situation if he finds out that you have deliberately tried to undermine him. View FB and whatever other sites you want, but always make sure you've got a another window open that you can quickly switch to if someone else comes into the room. If your co-workers see you doing it, you can bet that the boss will know about it.
