Honduras Sends Korean as New Envoy to Korea
A South Korean who grew up in Korea and left 33 years ago for Honduras, is now coming back to her biological country as an ambassador from her immigrated country, the first of such kind in South Korea�s history.
Kang Young-shin, 57, the principal of the Honduras Korea School, was appointed by its President Porfirio Lobo Sosa as its new ambassador to South Korea, JoongAng Ilbo said Saturday, citing diplomatic sources.
She was asked for the position by the president two weeks ago, whom she has been knowing since 1986 when the president, then a minister, came to learn the Korean martial arts taekwondo to a fitness center belonging to her.
�President Lobo knows and likes South Korea very much. I think he chose me to further promote ties between the two countries,� she told JoongAng.
�In Honduras, I worked for other Korean residents to adapt to the society. Now I am very happy to work for Honduras with this opportunity.�
She is the first overseas Korean who will be returning her home country as an ambassador of a foreign country. Honduras allows dual citizenship and she holds both citizenships. |
