|
|
I'm leaving Korea for good in a couple months. I want to keep my money in Korea until the exchange rate is better; and then transfer it to my American account with KEB online. Has anyone ever used KEB online remittance when physically in another country besides Korea? I'm afraid KEB will block non-Korean IP's. |

I can let you know for sure in a month when I go home and try to transfer money with them. I highly doubt they would block "non-Korean" IPs because this would cut off any travelling Korean from accessing their account and I just don't see that happening. But I'm not 100% sure, either. It IS Korea. |

It seems to be bouncing around 1160 now, but it was as low as 1128 a few weeks ago. I know everyone is waiting for it to go below 1000.
The last time I transferred a big chunk of money it was at 938 or so. Except for my hotel deposit for vacation last November (which was only $250), I haven't done anything for 2 1/2 years. |

If you've never transfered before I would transfer some online before you leave just to make sure it works. I had heaps of problems trying to get my international debit and credit cards working abroad. I had to go back twice after they told me they would work. One was after I'd been to the Philippines for a week and was really lucky I had had a bank account at home that I could use. After that they told me it was fixed. Before my next big trip I tried to use my Korean c/c to pay for my travel insurance online...declined. Went back in...oh sorry, it hasn't been registered for overseas use yet. Ummm...It supposedly has.. TWICE!!! ARGH. Finally I got someone who knew what she was doing. Double check everything to do with banking in this country. It is never easy and a lot of the time it's not even a language barrier, it's just like that. |
