I am going to teach in Seoul in August and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or past experience traveling around Asia when I have free time. Where is the most efficient place to travel while I am in Korea? I have heard Thailand, Japan, China, etc... any advice would help. Thanks.

Define 'efficient'.

Low cost: Fukuoka (by land and boat), Manila or Cebu, Taipei, and Shanghai. All accessible for less than $300. Kuala Lumpur isn't that expensive to get to either.

This thread shows the low-cost airlines that currently operate from S. Korea:

Aside from that, in general: Beijing, Shanghai, Osaka, Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, Hong Kong. Those are generally the cheapest to fly to. Anything in China carries a caveat though - the 130,000 KRW+ VISA for Americans.

Once you fly to SE Asia - there are very good true bargain airlines to fly to various places there: Air Asia being the main one, though I've never used them myself.

Overall- I'd recommend:

Paying for the VISA and taking a Beijing/Shanghai trip
Flying Jeju Air to Osaka, Japan + visiting Kyoto/Nara
Flying Cebu Pacific to Manila + visiting Boracay (or whatever else interests you)
    Visiting Hong Kong/Macau/maybe Taipei.

Many other places though to visit of course, but those are the lowest cost ones. Also in Korea - tickets go up in price very quickly, so the faster you book the better. As in - I'm looking a tickets for 3 months from now, and wishing I had decided a month earlier.

Higher price tickets but lots of Koreans also go to Turkey - and, I have to say - they're right.

Thanks BoholDiver. Okay cool I gotcha. I am going to look into those places. That also seems like that would be a great trip bbb0777. It sounds like a list of great spots to visit as well.
