Everyone prepares for culture shock when coming to a place like Korea for the first time but going home after being here four years- now that was tougher!! |

So far the only reverse culture shock I've experienced is the 7 dollar cigarettes, thank you Cook County.
I'll be quitting quite quickly. |

Oh, Chicago. I miss thee.
On a side note, my friend just got back from there and brought some frozen Italian beef but I can't find any goddamn giardiniera. |

The poster asked about Reverse Reverse Culture Shock. Not Reverse Culture Shock.
To answer the question I have never heard of it before, I can only assume it means moving back to a place where you lived after living at home for a while so...

Yeah, but you get that feeling of like "Wait a minute, why I am I here in this place again? WTF was I thinking ?" |

Making the adjustment to back home can be awkward. Even some things like saying hello to people can be tricky. "Why is she saying hello? What does she want?"
You learn certain ways of interacting and dealing with Korean culture, and then find that they don't always transfer back onto Westerners. |

I think the worst possible thing is to go from your home country to an Asian country and back to another country that isn't your home but where they still speak English.
I've done this twice, and it has done my head in both times. Why do I keep doing it? I don't know... |

get fat and cold shock yet?
may have to wait until June until it warms up enough for the layers of clothes to come off, so the layers of blubber underneath get exposed.
how's that 11% County Sales Tax treating you?
the complete lack of downtown parking, now subleased to a private parking company that charges like 4 dollars an hour on a meter
don't worry.. "Dick" Daley still has more budget deficits to plug in the budget.
That plug will be squarely aimed at your rectum. Pucker up.
then get ready for the state "shaft".
With the federal to follow. |

Off-topic anger might be a symptom of reverse culture shock, I guess. Not disagreeing with you, but you kinda bunny trailed there |

nah, it's just that old gil was so looking forward to returning to Chicago.
Hope he's finding it to his liking. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't.
re the topic at hand, I think one would need probably at LEAST three years of being away from US, Canada, UK, etc to come back and feel the slightest bit different or suffer any of this so called "reverse culture shock".
probably more than three years, but I'd start at three.
When I've been away and have returned after a year or two, there was no reverse culture anything. |
