|
Just found out one of my parents isn't doing so well so I may have to go home. Problem is I'm a recent arrival to Korea so I don't have my ARC and re-entry permit yet, and I have scheduled classes in the morning so I can't go to the immigration office until my appointment in two weeks. If worse comes to worst, can I apply for my single re-entry at the airport with just my passport and visa, then get back in the country and apply for my ARC and multiple re-entry permit afterwards? |

If you get an off-forum answer to that could you let us know what you find out. Or PM me. I have a friend in a similar situation who's wondering about what happens if he leaves Korea without having an ARC yet (but he DOES have the E2 visa already). |

To both posters above.
If you look at the E-2 you will see a three month range on it. This often confuses newbies since they've heard that the E-2 is good for a year, but when they receive the E-2 it looks like (by the dates) that it's only good for three months. That however is how long you have to get a ARC/register with Immigration, not the validity of the visa. If you DON'T do this...then it's only valid for three months.
So it depends on when you got the E-2 and how long you are going to be out of the country.
And to Mr. Troglodyte...why doesn't your friend just go down to Immigration by himself and get the card?
He will need: The school business number, the contract, some photos, passport and some money for fees. |

IF you are American AND you have a multi-entry visa then you can leave and return without canceling your visa and work status.
If you are from ANYWHERE ELSE then you MUST have an ARC to get a re-entry permit from the airport or immigration office. You CAN get your ARC and re-entry permit at the same time but you cannot get a re-entry permit before you get your ARC. (personal experience in a similar circumstance).
If you leave without your re-entry permit then your work status will be canceled.
