Hi, im just looking for a little information about Gunsan. I know its on the coast and there's some beautiful islands near by, but is there much to do in Gunsan itself?

Also are there any beaches in or near Gunsan?
If yes, are they clean and do you think they would be suitable for kitesurfing?

I also read the is a resevoir in Gunsan, can you do water sports here all year round? Do you think you could do kitesurfing here?

Any other information people want to pass on would be greatly appreciated as I may end up being there for 12 months.

Thanks.

I've been to Gunsan a time or two, but couldn't find any beaches there. Mainland Gunsan's coast is rocky, mostly good for fishing and hiking, but that there are beaches on the island chain off the coast. Some of the islands are inhabited, so presumably you can take a boat out there. The weather is warm/balmy compared to many other parts of SK.

If I had to describe the town in one word, it would be "sleepy". Very little traffic, not even that mountainous, just a small port town with a tiny commercial harbor and a tiny airport. In central Gunsan, there's a bit of a college/campus feel as well.

The main expat population out there is U.S. military, so posters on a US military forum (google the words "USFK" and "forum" or "message board") might know a good deal more than the posters here.

Sorry I can't give you more info, hopefully this helps a little.
