I had my first day of a teaching class in my university/ Anyway, I had the students in groups for a discussion. I heard one student yell another student that she had seen him on Korean dramas. Well it turned out to be true and the girls are quite impressed. Well, I did not take to the guy. He irritated me because when I went over to the group, he would be talking and when I asked what about he would say, "nothing" and wave me off. I asked him and few questions and got short trite answers. Perhaps, I am judging him wrong, but I sensed a cocky individual with an attitude issue. I did address the class and told them that I understood my approaching their desks was uncomfortable for them, but I had to do it in order to listen and assist them. That it was good for them to experience a little discomfort because when they go into the real world and use English it would be much more uncomfortable. I also said, that if they became quiet when I approached their desks, that I would assume they are not participating.

I will keep an eye on this individual and nip the candle in the bud if I think he is being uncooperative and having a negative influence on the other students.

have him do the menial tasks like handing out papers to students, erasing the board, and "assisting" pronunciation exercises. Then turn and tell the class how much you "appreciate" having such a "wonderful" student in class.

its pretty clear that he loves the attention from the ladies, but he will get more attention at the front of the class, acting for everybody (including you)

The eight or nine year old girl who's on television programs and in many, many T.V. ads - E-Mart and the one for Kiwi fruit are two that come to mind - was in my class in 2007 and 2008 at an elementary school down the road from Exit 5 of Daeheung Station in the Mapo-Ku area of Seoul. Her English name at that time was Rose. She was a good kid, and her mother and father were very sincere and polite people.

I don't know if it's 'celebrity' worthy, but a few kindergarteners who have been on Starking singing and dancing were in my kindergarten class a few years back.

It shouldn't be a bother. He was on tv, and people notice. I would probably give him a brief nod to his success as most people normally do when someone has an unique experience.

I think you certainly may have judged him wrong. He's a tv personality in a uni class. No matter what, if you give him a hard time, you're always going to be the one that everyone looks down on.

This is the kind of student that I would definitely have on my good side, but like Senior said, wouldn't treat him any differently.

When you're ready to give up here in Korea and the prospect of being fired no longer bothers you, on your last sane day at work just go crazy and have fun with it.

Make an entire lesson about how he sucks as an actor and pick on his insecurities. It would be awesome.

I had a student several years ago at my univ. who "disapeared". Turns out she was quite busy at the time. I learned that when the class told me the next day after The Miss. Korea Contest, that she was the winner.
