Hey everyone, I just arrived in Daegu. I live in Sangin-dong, Dalseo-gu, I have been here for three days and still finding my way. If you are living in the area and would like to direct me to a place where I could meet some foreigners in the future that would be fantastic!
I am from New Zealand and South Africa. Does anyone know of a bar or establishment that will show the tri-nations when it starts? Somewhat imperative to my survival. |

I highly doubt any bars in sangin would show the matches. Your best bet would be communes or the holy grill downtown. Beer kaiser in wolbae does play some soccer now and again. You may have to resort to streaming it unfortunately. There are quite a bit of foreigners in and around sangin. When people stay local they usually head to the strip of bars near sangin nagari across from lotte but there are definitely no foreigner bars or anything like that. |

Welcome to Daegu. Most places people go to are downtown. Catch the red line (Sangin) to Jungangno and have a walk around - unfortunately I don't know which exit you should take.
Some places you can check out downtown: Commune, Who's Bob, Ping, Urban, Go-Go Vinyl, and Holy Grill (they have a sports' bar).
If you want a better chance of finding places, you can catch a taxi to Samdeok Sobangso (a fire station), which serves as a starting point when going downtown. If you go there, you just cross the road from where you get dropped off and you will walk past Commune and several of the other places are just around the corner (on the right).
Get yourself a copy of Daegu Pockets for a map (there is an online version, too). |

Thanks for the replies, I look forward to being part of the community both here and in my neighbourhood. Sangin-dong is pretty cool, I'm within walking distance from everything I need and there is enough diversity around to ensure I will be wide eyed for a long time.
Will check out the above mentioned places. If you are also new to Daegu or will be soon, drop me a line and we could hang out.
Ok I start working tomorrow, better get to organizing some introductory lessons! |

You should like Daegu. It's a cool city and I miss living there.
BTW, which part of you is from South Africa? I know they did the first heart transplant there. |

Go to the Samduk fire station and walk around for a bit. There are several foreigner restaurants out that way. |

Yeah it was performed Dr Chris Barnard in 1967 if I remember right.
I was born in Pretoria, SA and moved to NZ at the age of 14, so I guess I'm half Kiwi half South African =)
I saw a foreigner yesterday on the way to home plus...wanted to say 'Hey man howzit going' and bombard him with a plethora of innate ramblings about how awesome it is to be here...but then a really hot girl walked towards me |

Sadly, a myth. The most attractive women are the fish wives of Jalgalchi Market in Busan.
