|
I would like to come to Korea from the US on a one way ticket and look for work when I arrive. I have previously had an E-2 visa so I believe I can just do a visa run to Japan. However I am concerned about being able to board the flight. On my previous entry to Korea they would not let me board with no return ticket until I presented my visa.
I have heard varying information, some say they had no problems, some say they simply tell the agent they are taking the ferry to china or something, some say it depends on the airline and you should call. Does anyone here have any advice? I understand a tourist visa for the US is now 90 days, so perhaps it is not as much of an issue?? |

It really depends on the person at the check-in counter.
The REQUIREMENT is that you have confirmed return or onward passage before your entry on a visa waiver (no visa entry) stamp.
It is the AIRLINE who gets fined AND has to bear the cost of your repatriation if there is any problem with your entry - hence they often check for your return flight.
Check-in counters in north America are almost ANAL when it comes to checking. You MAY get lucky but don't depend on it. Be prepared to buy onward passage out of Korea (refundable ticket) if required. If you are counting on doing a visa run, get yourself a ticket from Korea to Japan.
Solves your problem at boarding time and you can either refund it or use it when the time comes.

go ahead and tell them you plan to take the ferry to Japan or China, as you stated.
if they don't buy it and try to talk you into buying a tkt, you can always ask to sign a waiver that you don't hold the airline responsible - or something like that - anyway all the airlines have them and you can sign it and be on your merry way. |
