Hi,

We just arrived in Jeonju and have two questions:

1) Where is a bank with an international ATM? We have Nonghyup accounts but need to pull money out of our international accounts before doing a wire transfer.

2) Where are the best places to look for a stove, refrigerator and washer/dryer? I assume E-Mart or Homeplus, but where are they? We're out in Junghwasandong, and noticed there's a Lotte Department store in Hyoja-dong.
We'd rather buy used appliances for cheaper, but might go price out new ones.

Thanks!

try the KEB close to Geaksa (the downtown area)

appliances...yes Emart (Seoshindong) or Homeplus, there's one close to there as well...

not sure about your area though...

you can also post on jeonjuhub...there's a tab for selling and buying...might get some stuff cheaper than at the store...

enjoy your stay!

I don't know anything about your town, but there should be places that sell used appliances. You just have to find them. I know in Gwang-ju there is a street with many such stores. I bought all that stuff cheap like that when I lived there.
Korean help is pretty useful with this.

Strange as it sounds, don't use a bank's ATM for international account withdrawals - use a convenience store's.

Thanks for the replies! I had no problem finding an international ATM- there are several. I ended up buying a new washer/dryer and fridge- but they were on a pretty good sale at E-Mart. I figured it's good to have new appliances in case anything goes wrong (and we'll be here two years), and justify this by the fact that we're mostly buying used furniture.

Can anyone tell me where to find a bank that exchanges US dollars? I've been here a week and still don't know where the best place to go. I'm in the Seoshindong area. Thanks.

I've never been in a bank that didn't. But bring your passport. Many want to put their stamp in it. Just look at their exchange rate board, show some US dollars and the door greeter will figure out what you want and give you the right number ticket.

Hey, I was wondering how you like it there so far? I have been offered a contract there, but I don't know how rural or urban it really is. Is there many expats?

Thanks

Jeonju is a true city with 640,000 people - quite urban. Good bus system, good rail connections, nice locals. About 200 guest English teachers, the great majority men under 30. Some expat activities, mostly centering around drinking. Go from there....

I'm sure Jeonju's bus system is fine, but I CANNOT figure it out. I live in the southwest part of the city, and I can get AWAY from my house (to Chonbuk Dae, downtown, etc.) but never get home! I'll get on a bus that I think is going the right way and then it will turn!

Where can I get bus routes online for Jeonju? I don't mean what goes where, but actual route maps so I can see and not guess blindly.

Thanks!
