long story short.. i got my period of sojourn extended. Went to immigration office and extended it. Got the back of my arc card stamped with the new expiry date.
They handed me back my passport with no stamp or anything on my e2 visa indicating that the period of sojourn will be extended.
Will this be a problem with immigration once I leave Korea? I've heard that the stamp on the arc card means next to nothing. I might have to face fines at the border heading home. True or not?
Please let me know!
thanks guys! |

When you extend your status of sojourn your ARC means everything and they never do put anything into your passport (UNLESS you get a new re-entry permit at the same time).
You will have no problem leaving Korea.
Having said that you should also be aware that any re-entry privilege you may have had DOES NOT carry over into the extension period.
If you leave Korea without getting a re-entry permit your work visa WILL be canceled and you will have to apply for a new visa with all the documentation again.

This is good advice. I was in the same boat as the OP and almost found this out too late. Thankfully I checked with immi at the airport before I left to Shanghai in December and got the proper re-entry permit. |
