|
|
According to the Korea Times, starting August 1, it is going to get a lot harder for ethnic Koreas (Gyopo) to get an F4 Visa. As I understand the article, anyone who wants an F4 Visa will have to work on a farm in the countryside!

You would think there would be talk about this or some warning this was coming. Is this the first news of this? I am coming to Korea at the end of August and was going to get my F4 visa, but this really changes everything. |

Could be right about it being for Chinese/Koreans only.
The Korea Times article sure makes it sound like it applies to everyone, and makes no mention of Chinese/Koreans, but the article also mentions common jobs for F4 holders as things like manufacturing or housekeeping.
If they target ethnic Koreans from only one country (China), I wonder what, if any fallout there will be. I'm sure some civil liberty lawyers will be all over this. |

I think it's a way to appease the Chinese. The Chinese government is no fan of the large numbers of Korean-Chinese working in a country just next door. They maybe worried about future border disputes with a unified Korea. I remember a few years back some liberal civic groups advocating giving Chinese-Koreans citizenship, however a few well timed news articles hinted that the Chinese government would not be too pleased if Seoul actually considered the issue. |

It's lazy translating. Any news article is more reliable in the source language. |

I thought Chinese-Koreans were not eligible for the F4 Visa....Is it saying that by working 2 years in a 3D job, the benefit of the F4 visa opens up to them? |

I think Korean Chinese can get the F-1 visa but not sure if they are eligible for the F-4.
Don't forget, the general and presidential elections are next year in Korea so politicians will have a full batch of populist policy proposals on hand to win votes. |
