Hey guys.... I myself am gay too and just want to see if anyone is having the same problem as me... I've been here for about 6 months and I have never been on a date.... when I lived in Taiwan I was dating loads!

I've come to the conclusion that the Korean gay guys I have met aren't quick to want to take me for dinner or go to the movies but they are however quick to invite themselves to my apartment or take me to a motel (just to clarify, I'm not that type of boy.... if I just wanted sex I wouldn't be writing this now)!

I was wondering are there any gays out there who have managed to date Koreans or even settle down with them?

I am starting to think it's virtually impossible to date seriously a Korean and have a happy life with him.... which is the opposite from what my friends tell me the Chinese are like in Shanghai!

Why is this? Do you think times will change? Or, should us gays just admit... it's never gonna happen and if we wana be with an Asian Long-term it's better China or Thailand etc

Thanks

Seriously date a gay man in Korea? Are you crazy? I mean, do you really even need to ask?

(Yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule, but come on, this is Korea, not San Fran)

There is exactly one gay Korean man thats out of the closet. Its that bald guy who used to be on tv and now owns multiple restaurants in Itaewon. Maybe you could date him.

I've been in a relationship with a Korean guy for more than 3 years. We have our share of problems but for the most part are happy. As in many places, a lot of people outside the gay community are very ignorant about what happens inside it.

That said, it can be difficult to date any Korean person as an outsider, perhaps moreso if you are gay. Korean lives are largely prescribed from birth to death. Departing from that in any significant ways often causes the Korean person to be outcast - from his/her family, friends, ultimately from society. However, I would say this "problem" is not really unique to being gay. It is a problem that pervades all aspects of intercultural relationships between Koreans and non-Koreans. And it is changing, albeit slowly.

Naysayers simply don't know enough Koreans. Most of my gay western friends have found gay Korean men if they want to date Koreans. However, most of them also revert to western men.

I don't think a lot of Koreans would be able to spot a gay couple, even if they were right in front of them. I saw a couple of rather well-groomed fellas at the supermarket pushing a trolley together. I mean they were pushing it together in that intimate way couples do with both people holding it at the same time, so they can be close together. They looked fairly gay to me, but my gf assured me that's nothing out of the ordinary here.

I think just the opposite; koreans can "spot" gays....they just turn a blind eye.
I think that anytime you see two guys always together and never see them with a female, and are living together in a studio/officetel/one bedroom...well....

I have a gay Korean friend and he certainly has a busy dating life, so I guess you're looking in the wrong places. Also, I didn't know he was gay when we first met, which would lead me to believe Korean gay guys might not put out the same "signals" that typically make you think "That dudes ghei" as they do in the West. I went to university in Korea, and I have a lot of friends who do things that culturally, people would superficially associate with being gay in the West, but they're totally straight (silk pink shirt anyone?). So good luck unraveling the mystery out there.
