Im looking for a torrent site that has pre-converted ipod files, cos converting movies or tv shows to make them playable on the ipod takes too long. Any recommendations?

Get an MP3 player which doesn't need file conversion.

Zune?.................. What's a Zune?

Just joking.

I mean ALL the other MP3 players. Every current MP3 player out there, except ipods, doesn't require the user to convert any files before playing. Just drag and drop.

Take your pick. Sony, Samsung, Cowon, Iriver, Sansa.....whoever.....none of the players from these companies require you to convert your audio or video files before you can play them...............only Apple ipods do that.........

I'm glad we agree that the Zune was a massive disaster. MS should stick to software and stay out of the hardware business.

A big part of the reason for no .AVI support is that Apple had a hand in the creation of the AAC, MP4, M4V, .MOV, and H.264 formats. They are native to Quicktime (also an Apple creation), so there is no way Apple will move away from that format. The fact of the matter is that .AVI and .WMV are Windows formats and .Mov, .AAC, .MP4, and .M4V are all Apple formats.

There's still a wall between the two systems and there always will be. That being said, I still don't see the big issue. I download .AVI files from the torrent sites and they automatically convert to iPhone format as soon as they are downloaded. Each one-hour TV show takes only 5 or 6 minutes to convert and I don't have to be there when it happens. It all happens automatically, and even adds the finished file to iTunes automatically. Pretty hands off and simple if you ask me.

I don't know a windows equivalent, but a 45 minute tv show only takes about a minute to convert with isquint on my 3 year old macbook. Movie takes a bit less than 5 minutes.

Try another app maybe? Ignoring that, if you are on usenet, their are a few binaries dedicated to the iphone movie format.

a.b.ipod.vs.movies

I have Automator (built in to Mac OS X) set up to receive a notification from Transmission (torrent downloader for the Mac) when a file has downloaded and automator sends the file to Handbrake for conversion. Automator also tells Handbrake what to do with the file. I found instructions about how to do this using Google.

I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV, and the computer is on all day downloading what I want. I also use an App called iTeleport on my iPhone that allows me to share my Mac Mini's screen from anywhere. This way, even if I am not at home, I can get on the computer and download any new torrents I might want. When I get home, I have the AVI and the MP4 version of each (with the MP4 version having already been added to iTunes). All I have to do is plop my iPhone in the dock and all the new shows are uploaded automatically. Or, if I choose to, I can watch the shows with the AVI file on the TV.

It is a fairly painless setup that makes the entertainment part of my life very simple and stress free.

If you are using Windows then I'm not really sure how you'd go about getting this accomplished. Sorry.

Here is the easiest method.
Download Vuze - it's a torrent client that also offers media playback and conversion for a ton of different devices. I've converted all sorts of video files into ipod Nano and iphone format. I also convert videos into PS3 format, which my ps3 can read right from my computer.

Also with the newly added remote pairing with vuze i can choose torrents to download from my iphone or work computer.
