|
|
Hello all,
I've been asked to teach a course for freshmen on "surviving university" -- on being a college student. The topics should be how to manage time, how to take notes, how to summarize texts, and so on. Not sure how the heck to set this up. Has anyone done this type of course or has a text they can recommend?
Thanks in advance. |

That sounds like fun.
Be sure to teach them about condoms! (j/k)
You need to teach them about the importance of building their resume while a student. They can do that through internships, volunteer work, part-time jobs, etc. |

Don't have a single text, but I used to teach uni students in the states and here is an assignment I gave to all incoming students:

Several of the links are broken but you can get a general idea of what I was asking for.
The blog hasn't been updated since I haven't taught there for years.
For note-taking and discussion you can't go wrong with "Key Concepts." Don't know if it's available in Korea. "Contemporary Topics" is pretty good too.
Then again, I'd think that survival in a Korean university depends more on your repertoire of drinking games and less on your academic skills. |

I found a pretty good list at Cengage on this topic. It's a subject I never knew existed until this week. Thanks for the advice so far and the link.

Judging from my reading class this fall, that's probably true. If I could find readings on "21, 21" and "Bizz, buzz" they might start coming to class... |

+1
OMg this is gold. Listen to this guy. I love teaching my resume/interview class, but it's for 3rd/4th years and ther resumes have nothing on them. It's pathetic. |
