|
|
I'm somewhat of a coffee aficionado (I had to look that up!), and have finally decided it's time to make the switch from my blade grinder to a burr grinder. Today I went to the micro-roaster I frequent, Kaldi's in Hongdae, and was overwhelmed by choice: I want a manual one that isn't too big, but beyond that I don't know what to look for.
I want one that can do coarse grind (for French press) and fine grind (for espresso). Are all burr grinders the same in this regard and you just put the beans in twice for finer grinds, or what? |

Well, you want to do be able to change the fineness of your grind so I'm guessing you'll want one with coarse to fine settings......I'm not all that sure as I'm in the same boat as yourself. I'm upgrading from a blade to a burr grinder myself.
But I'm pretty sure there are models with a knob or dial that can change the fineness of the grind.
I'm going to wait until my trip home to UK this Summer to buy a burr grinder and a real tamper (the old soup spoon tamper just doesn't cut it!). Everything related to espresso in Korea seems crazy expensive. |

My wife and i bought a Krupps Burr grinder about two years ago. Be prepared to pay for the nose for one. Our works okay. The finest setting is too fine and the coarsest setting isn't quite coarse enough. My advice is to see what you can buy and then read user reviews for it. one thing I remember is one person saying that any grinder not worth a small fortune will have failings, so don't expect too much.
Off the top of my head the only two burr grinders I've seen at the departments stores are the Krupps and the Delonghi burr grinders. Both go for over 100,000 won. |

My espresso machine is a DeLonghi, and I'm quite pleased with it. I'd guess their burr grinders are of comparable quality, so I'll look them up online and compare prices with what's available in Korea. Thanks for the input everyone! |

I bought a manual burr grinder (electric too expensive) in Namdaemun for about 25,000 and am quite happy with it. YOu can adjust the size of the grind but it's a PITA so I'm thinking I might just buy a second one and use that for my espresso grind. |

If you're ever in Busan, there's a coffeporium located in the underground strip mall with a fantastic selection of things coffee between Busan Station and choryang
Pricey, but nice.
(note- Ironically, I'm not sure how much I can say about the beans tho...) |
