|
|
I'm teaching in a small EPIK public school in the country. I commute from a nearby city to my country school.
My school says I'm to teach a one-off K elementary teachers' class in the nearby city (where I live).
This special teachers' class is 4 - 5.40pm (100 mins).
Am I elligble for overtime pay? I think so, as I'm working past 4.30pm.
PS: In my small school I don't teach my EPIK contract 22 hours per week (I teach about 19 hours - but they're thinking of ways to increase this, i.e., teachers' conversation class etc).
Any advice appreciated. |

I wouldn't go to a different location for them, unless theres more pay.
Also, if it's past your usual working time then ask for overtime. |

My sentiments exactly. There was a lot of nervous giggling by the VP and co when I told them exactly that - so I'm expecting problems about this. |

If your contract says you work from 9-5, then you are eligible for overtime after 5pm. If you are 8:30-4:30, then overtime after 4:30.
EPIK (and I think SMOE and GEPIK) pay 30,000원/hr. Check your contract. Post the relevant section if you need it reviewed. |

Teaching at a second location, even under the same employer, can violate immigration law. (Despite how common it is under
So tell them you can't because immigration hasn't signed off on it yet, if you need an excuse.
If you're working less than 40 hours a week you're not eligible for statutory overtime.
If your contract specifies working hours and you're outside of those (or the max hours) then you should get overtime or have the right to refuse. |
