There is usually an amount at the end of my cash register receipt (after the 10% tax has been added to the other items). I've been told that this represents the untaxable items. Anyone know which items would be untaxable. (note: the cashier speaks no English and we speak no Korean, so we can't simply ask her)

I believe you get hit with a tax or vat on all foreign goods, so the "untaxed" items should be Korean.

I don't know how this works in Korea, but in some countries certain items that you NEED are taxed differently (perhaps not at all). Those include stuff like staple foods (not junk food) - e.g. fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, rice.

But I don't know if that's the case here in Korea.
