Interesting LP article here:

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/canada/travel-tips-and-articles/42/39339

In summary:

1 Belgrade, Serbia
2 Montral, Canada
3 Buenos Aires, Argentina
4 Dubai, United Arab Emirates
5 Thessaloniki, Greece
6 La Paz, Bolivia
7 Cape Town, South Africa
8 Baku, Azerbaijan
9 Auckland, New Zealand
10 Tel Aviv, Israel

Sadly, I've only been to Auckland, so cannot attest to the accuracy of the report.

Where is Rio on this list? And Beirut is undeniable...Everyone's heard about Goa, although I can't personally vouch for it like I can the other two. So, I'm confused. Top ten lists are about popularity, no?

In the States, don't forget New Orleans, Key West, and Las Vegas.

I've been to 3 of them: Montreal, Dubai, and Tel Aviv. Dubai isn't nearly as fun as the other two. It shouldn't even be in the top 10. And yes, New Orleans and/or Las Vegas should be on that list.

I lived in Las Vegas and didn't like it. It's expensive and the strip is undriveable. When I went there I always parked blocks away and walked. But to each their own.

The funnest places I've been meself? Kuta, Bali and Veracruz, Mexico. St. John's, Newfoundland on a Saturday night.

Gee. No Korean cities. However could that happen?

Keywest, really? I was actually disapointed with Key West. I thought the beaches were pretty crappy and small, the whole Island is way too expensive, and all the nightlife seems centered around one area with lots of old people hanging out.

I was too. I thought all in all it compared directly and very unfavorably to New Orleans. But the question was not what places you like, but what are the party towns, and there are vast amounts of beer consumed there.

I've heard Cali rocks. Haven't been to Fortaleza or Santo Domingo. Havana is fun, but the financial imbalance between locals and visitors makes it weird. Sao Paulo is awesome at night, but expensive, and you need to know a local to show you where to go.

Cali can be a little on the small side, but I like it. Sexta on weekends and Juanchito shouldn't be missed.

correct re La Habana, but cubanos know how to have fun and party like few others if any. Similar financial imbalances will exist elsewhere in third/developing world.

Sao Paulo - go to Love Story. (after hours club)
