Anything over 22 hours a week is paid at 20,000원/hr, or 30,000원/hr after 5pm and on weekends. This I know.

However, my school seems to like calculating a per student rate. So 25,000원 per student per month. On average, I've ended up getting paid about 17,000원/hr.

This time I decided to be frank and specific and say that however they calculate it, I need to get paid that 20,000. But the school refuses to charge more per student in order to pay that rate. Now, fortunately there were enough students so that I got paid that rate. But I'm worried about the next time after school starts up.

I've shown them the EPIK contract and explained the situation. My co-teacher totally understand but she seems to get brick-walled by admin. I'm told that in order to increase the per-student rate they'd have to hold a meeting with parents and such. Apparently it's a big hassle.

FYI, I've signed no contract or anything. I'm a great teacher (or so I'm told Smile) and my co-teacher's and the VP and Principal like me and want me to re-sign for a third year.

How would you deal with this situation (while pissing off as few people as possible)?

Figure out how many students you need in order to be paid that rate. Then tell them to cancel the afterschool classes if enrollment falls below that number.

That's what I did for this time. number of students*number of classes-admin fees. It worked out fine for this time, but how should I deal with it for next time? I've shown them the math and said to either charge more per student or cancel the classes but they said they can't do either. So how do I deal with this particular situation? Just keep saying no?

Just say you're sorry but you can't do it. The after schools are optional. You don't HAVE to do them at any price.

korean teachers will do this. they have a minimum number that each class needs to have, otherwise it will be cancelled.

a few of my classes fell below the minimum, the school just chipped in teh extra to make up for it.

Good advice, all. Since the school doesn't chip any money in I'll just continue calculating to see if they can afford to pay me based in student fees. If not, I'll cancel the classes. Thanks again!
