Personally, I find cell phones annoying. Do people really need to have one glued to their ear for half of their waking day? Who on earth are these people talking to? And if they're not on their phone, they're fidgeting with it, texting with it, checking to see if they missed a call, playing computer games on it, watching friggin tv on it, or taking their own photo for the five hundredth time.
If you've time to kill, what ever happened to picking up a newspaper or a book?

I've never been able to understand this. Who are they talking to? I use mine about once a week. I almost never call people. They can call me. I text message quite a lot, though. |

You've forgotten about the biggest problem: hands-free devices!
It is now almost impossible to tell who is on the phone and who's a lunatic with a cursory glance. |

If people are by themselves I have no problems with them using their cell phone. However, in a social setting I believe phone calls should be less then 1 minute, texting kept at a minimum and of course no games. I have some friends who will pick up the phone and talk for 10 minutes even though it's just the two of us going for a walk or having dinner, which I find extremely rude. |

The cell phone thing is irritating, but in most ways it's harmless, so I say live and let live. But there are consequences to this kind of lifestyle above and beyond the danger of not watching where you're going. Such things as increased self-absorption, the overarching need to always have your mind occupied and busy and what that entails (read: a loss of creativity and imagination), and just the inability to notice the world go by around you, to see people and catch the details that make life interesting. If you don't work on your powers of observation and perception, they do fade away. |

People should not use cellphones in any 'shared enclosed space' where the annoyed listeners have no chance of escape. Those 'shared enclosed spaces' include elevators, offices, public transportation, etc. Unless it's a life and death situation, make your call later. Cellphobnes work just as well after you get off the subway. And if you must take a call, make it brief and keep the volume to a minimum.
Finally, if you absolutely cannot take the subway without watching your favorite tv show on your phone, put in friggin ear phones. |

Okay, now I know what you're so peeved about. At first I thought you just hated people with lots of friends.
There was a guy on the subway yesterday who had his cellphone volume on what must have been the max and was playing some cannon game. Every few seconds, it would go BOOOOMKSSSHHHHHHH. Suck a d*** cellphone dude.
I agree with ya Gal. Headphones or bust I say! |
