Do any of you make frequent trips to Japan?

I wanted to perhaps live in or near a coastal city and perhaps take advantage of the close sea transportation between Japan and Korea to spend a lot of free time (weekends) in Japan.

Does anyone do this? Or is it simply too expensive to be going to Japan every other weekend for two days?

That would be prohibitively expensive, but not unheard of. The beetle is 300k-ish return.

Wow, when did it go up that high?? I paid something like 190k return in Oct. 2008. I was going to tell you your info was wrong but I checked the site and you are right, though they do have a weekday discount for around 250k. But still, that's a pretty steep increase in such a short span of time.

Return flights or package deals (flight with hotel) may not cost you much more. Check online websites or get friendly with a travel agent.

Yeah well.. it's still the only way you can get from Pusan to civilization in less than three hours. And hell, if I were down that way, I might spend the other half of my paycheck on that. And that's why I say prohibitively expensive... Should you choose to spend your weekends in Akiba, you're not going to make any cash here.

My problem is time, not cash. I'd give blood to be back in Fukuoka right now.

Every other weekend would be ridiculously expensive. Not just the transportation, but add in lodging, food, and spending money for the weekend and it gets up there.

But hey, Japan's awesome and you need to spend your weekends doing something interesting so don't let me discourage you.

If you decide to go that route, more power to you. I like your style!

Yeah, what kik said. You're looking, on a bad week, at saving about 1mil a month on average. If you want to spend that every month, there are *very* few places to do it.

It's all about what you want out of your experience while you're here, so yeah. Bring back a t-shirt.
