I have a question regarding my upcoming trip to Korea. Would anyone know if it is wise to complete a health care proxy form to protect myself if incapacitated. Do you do this in Korea or the United States?

Thanks!

Do you honestly think that if you got hit by a bus the ambulance attendant or some nurse at a local hospital will look in your wallet for one or know what it is - let alone be able to read it? No different than your daily to-do list or shopping list to them.

Nice planning but essentially useless here (or anywhere else outside the US for that matter).

Ignore the above.

I transferred durable power of attorney to my mother before I left the US two years ago. That's for all debts public and private. All medical. Everything.

Now what makes ttom's statement so ridiculous is that *after* they do a wallet biopsy, they're going to find your ARC. Then they will contact the embassy. When the do-nothing, legally retarded chimpanzees at the ACS office finally take a break from throwing their poo, they'll check the computer and find your emergency contact in the State Department database. From there, they will be directed to your medical proxy, and your medical proxy can arrange for your repatriation or other due care.

Like I said... good planning but as the saying goes... "... the best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry..."

Nice but don't depend on it - this is not the good ol' US of A.
